Data Deletion
Last updated: 18 June 2026
This page is for anyone who wants Sunbird Digital to delete the personal information we hold about them. It's your right under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), and you don't need to give a reason.
First, one thing worth knowing. If you booked with a particular salon, that salon keeps its own client records and is responsible for them, so to have those removed you'll need to contact the salon directly. This page covers only the information Sunbird Digital holds.
1. How to ask us to delete your data
Email privacy@sunbird.digital with the subject Data deletion request and tell us:
- your full name
- the mobile number or email linked to your account
- what you'd like deleted, whether that's everything or just certain records
We may ask you to confirm your identity first, so that nobody can request the deletion of someone else's data.
2. What we can delete
On request, we can remove:
- your Sunbird profile (name, contact details and preferences)
- your booking history
- any allergy or health notes we hold
- your WhatsApp conversation history with us
If you'd like a copy of any of this before it's deleted, just ask and we'll send it to you.
3. What we have to keep
A few things we're legally required to hold on to, even after you ask us to delete your data:
- Financial and legal records. Invoices, transaction records, and anything tax law requires us to keep.
- Anonymised data. Records we've already de-identified, which can't be linked back to you.
- Salon client records. Where a salon manages its own client records through Sunbird, the salon controls that data, so contact the salon directly to request deletion.
4. How long it takes
We'll acknowledge your request within five business days and finish the deletion within 30 days. If it's going to take longer for any reason, we'll tell you why.
5. Questions or complaints
Email us any time at privacy@sunbird.digital. You also have the right to complain to South Africa's data protection authority:
